FIGURE DRAWING

In 10 years with the Indianapolis Art Center, I have been able to share my passion of figurative art by helping increase the number of open studio classes and provide figure instruction. The core of all art making is forming thought into visual symbols and drawing is the foundation. I enjoy demystifying the complexity of figure drawing and share enthusiasm when a student starts to draw what he/she sees, developing eye-hand coordination to process visual thinking to express his/her individual style, gaining confidence to experiment with new medias. My individualized instruction using figure drawing fundamentals helps those of all levels develop their style ranging from classical realisim to heroic anaimated figures.

As Drawing and Painting Department Head, I am available for private lessons for drawing, painting and figure, and I am available to conduct weekend workshops. Contact Breianna Satchwell at the Indianapolis Art Center, 255-2464, ex.224.

I am  scheduled to teach one 7 week figure drawing class at the Indianpolis Art Center on Monday evenings beginning  6:30 - 9:30 pm in the spring of 2012, and will monitor a figure open studio on Friday and Sunday. Please review the Spring 2012 Classes page to see additional class offerings.

Please read the following or look at a more detailed listing in the class syllabus portfolio for the breakdown of a 7 - 8 week class instruction. Students should bring their media of choice to all classes.

Beginning to advanced students will explore the contemporary viewpoints and aspects of figure drawing. Fundamental elements including anatomy, line quality, value and massing, proportion and foreshortening will be explored. Handouts will be provided to help reinforce basic concepts. Several approaches of these elements will be presented to help you develop your individual style, be it along traditional academic lines or a more contemporary emotive style. Students will work in their media of choice from professional models, starting with short poses and continuing to extended poses.

Students from previous classes will continue  to refine their skills and explore various media.  Students are asked to bring their own drawing materials to class.
